With a new NHL team coming to Seattle for the 2020-2021 season, the new franchise is also looking for a new farm system to grow and develop its players; and our very own Idaho Steelheads could be the solution to the problem.

Currently, the Idaho Steelheads are in the Eastern Conference Hockey League (ECHL) but if the team is to become the newest affiliate to the newest team they would need to be bumped up the American Hockey League (AHL). The really cool thing about this is that the AHL is only one step away from the NHL. The really REALLY cool thing is that most of the players on an AHL team are one-step away from achieving their lifelong dream of becoming a professional hockey player. The level of play, the speed, and the intensity are all ramped up.

These are the future stars of the NHL and they want you to see it.

The Steelheads have confirmed that they have been contacted by and have had conversations with Seattle, but no final decisions have been made yet. This is a big opportunity for hockey and hockey fans in the Treasure Valley to see some of the best hockey players in the world compete in our town and I could not be more excited about this possibility. The only downside that I can see with this would be for Dallas Stars fans. Right now the Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate for the Dallas Stars and if they go forward with this potential deal with Seattle, they would have to break ties with Dallas.

What do you think about this? Are you excited for a new crop of players to be featured here? Are you a lifelong Dallas Stars fan and are totally put off by the idea of this? Or, are you like me and just want to watch good hockey? Either way, you'll find me at the arena cheering on the Steelheads! I'll see you at the game!
