The 5 Coolest Things About Boise’s New Library
Here's what to look forward to when it opens Thursday!
The Idaho Statesman just released their "10 Fun Facts About Boise's Newest Library" and needless to say, this is going to be such a cool branch!
Boise Library - Bown Crossing - 2153 E. Riverwalk Drive
Opens for checkout: Thursday, May 18
Normal business hours: Tuesday–Thursday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, noon-5 p.m.; Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Closed Mondays.
Here are my five favorite things from the Statesman's list:
- 1
SMART LIGHTS
This is AWESOME and I want it for my house. Apparently the indoor lights adjust depending on how much natural light is coming in through the windows of the library!
AND a special coating on the windows will keep the summer heat out!
- 2
THEIR 'BIOSWALE' (no, it's not a weird animal)
They installed what's called a 'bioswale'! You'll see it in the form of a trench filled with rocks between the building and the parking lot.
Its purpose? To catch runoff water from the lot, that will be FILTERED before it heads to the Boise River! That way there is no debri or oil residue that gets into the water.
- 3
VIRTUAL REALITY
This new branch will have virtual reality goggles available for you! If you've never tried virtual reality goggles before, you NEED to check it out.
You can stand among jellyfish under the see, jump off buildings, and so much more without ever leaving the room. It's awesome!
- 4
BORROW STUFF
If you need to borrow an adapter, charger, laptop, or bike lock...you can check 'em out as easy as books!
- 5
VOX POPLAR
When you walk into the library, you're gonna see a huge spool of paper and an old-school typewriter.
Every once in a while, the library will host host “writers in residence” who will compose on-site. And as the writer types, the spool of paper will unwind.
How long will the paper last? About 50 years!!!
According to The Statesman, the installation called 'Vox Poplar' or "Voice of the People" is designed by Brooklyn-based artist Janet Zweig
