What's the one thing Americans fear the most?

With Halloween just a couple days away, Yahoo conducted a survey for find out what things Americans are most afraid of.

Here's the results:

1. Walking alone at night
2. Becoming the victim of identity theft
3. Safety on the Internet
4. Being the victim of a mass shooting or random shooting
5. Public speaking

Other things that made the list include:

• Running out of money in the future
• Government surveillance of Internet activity
• Becoming sick
• Natural disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes

The researchers behind the survey found they were able to predict what certain people would be afraid of if those people watched a lot of TV – especially the news.
