There's few things we love more than honoring our nation's armed forces. So you don't embarrass yourself, here's how to do it properly.

First off, it's always ok to show love and respect for military brothers and sisters. They do more for us than we could ever do for them, and they deserve our best. Every. Single. Day. That being said, someone is just waiting to correct you if you confuse Veterans Day with Memorial Day. We're here to help avoid that awkwardness.

Here's the deal:

Veterans Day

  • Takes place on November 11th every year
  • First took place back in 1954
  • Is designated as a day to honor all those who've served, or are currently serving, in the U.S. military

Memorial Day

  • Celebrated the last Monday in May
  • Was originally known as Decoration Day
  • Began in 1868, but was not made a national holiday until 1971
  • Is the day we pay tribute to those who died while serving in the military

So there you go. One day to say thank you for those who've served, and one day to honor those we lost during their service.

Happy Veterans Day. Amor patriae.
