Is This The Most Disrespectful Thing To Do In Idaho On Memorial Day?

We've all probably heard it at some point: "Happy Memorial Day!" For some people, it's an honest and genuine intention as they BBQ and enjoy extra time off this weekend.

The thing is, as many of us know, there doesn't seem to be anything "happy" about the occasion.

The True Meaning of Memorial Day

Memorial Day is supposed to be a day of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their life for our country. It's because of those sacrifices made by our military that we're able to enjoy and relish the freedoms the weekend brings.

Many Idahoans are aware of that, and it's safe to say that Idaho loves our military and the USA.

That being said, the same individuals who say "Happy Memorial Day" might also be the type of person to light fireworks on Memorial Day. That doesn't make the individual a bad person either, we understand people would do this with wholesome and genuine intentions, because they love our military and our country.

But, is lighting fireworks on Memorial Day really considered disrespectful?

Think about when there are no doubts about lighting fireworks: 4th of July, New Year's Eve...

These are days of celebration, and when we did some research to see how others felt about it.

"Fireworks, imo, are disrespectful to the families of those who will never be seen, heard, or loved again," a law student named Anthony said.

"They are gone forever. They gave their lives so you could enjoy a day off from work. THEIR LIVES!"

Another woman named Katie shared her thoughts, and she feels a little more lenient about the situation.

"I believe in the celebration of life. To celebrate who they were and what they did for our country," Katie shared.

"The honor they served in the military. The service they did when they gave their lives. So I think it’s ok to celebrate the lives."
