Doctors Share A Disgusting Reminder For Boise Summer Lovers
Summer officially begins on June 20th, but people in Boise aren't waiting for any form of calendar. The warmer weather has people in the Treasure Valley looking for ways to beat the heat and enjoying the sunshine with friends and family.
But, doctors are warning that it's not all sunshine and splashtime for summer lovers.
Things To Know Before Going Into The Pools of the Treasure Valley
There's nothing like hitting up the pool on a hot summer day with friends or the kids (or both) and enjoying a tasty beverage poolside.
There's a small catch, and it's something we've all heard about at some point: swimming pools can be gross. I wish we could blame it solely on the kids, but that's just not the case... adults urinate in the pool too.
When scrolling through the good ol' timeline yesterday, I noticed an alarming stat doctors are sharing with several news outlets:
There are one to three ounces of pee per person in the pool.
As for that part about adults taking a pee in the pool, doctors say that 30-40% of adults admit to peeing in the pool. Even nastier, that smell your nostrils are catching at the pool isn't the smell of chlorine. Rather, it's the smell of chlorine having a chemical reaction to all of the pee in the pool.

Now, like I said, most of us have heard that people pee in the pool, but these particular numbers have me rethinking every time I've been to a pool and thought: "Wow, the chlorine is strong in the pool today!"
Ugh.
Doctors also say that the chlorine typically kills pee in the pool within a few moments, but it's the "bacteria from the stool" that can take up to seven days to be killed.
Stay Clean, Boise Summer Lovers
I wish I could offer you some riveting and groundbreaking tips for staying clean and avoiding all of that urine, but I don't.
The tips I can share, you probably already thought about:
- Don't drink the pool water.
- Don't let your kids drink the pool water.
- And please, for the love of the most important thing in your life: take a shower when you're done swimming in the pool.
