Criminals will never go away, will they? As long as society exists, people will always be looking to break the law for their benefit.

And according to law enforcement, they even have their own form of communication.

If You See A Chalk "X" or Box, Be On Guard!

With so many Californians flocking into Idaho, it's not out of the question to think that a few criminals are among those coming into Idaho. That's why when we learned from law enforcement in California what criminals were doing, we immediately felt it was important for Idahoans to be on the lookout for their safety.

According to a post from police, criminals are communicating with one another by drawing either a chalk "X" or a box in front of people's homes.

"These seemingly innocent chalk symbols are coded messages utilized by criminals to mark homes as potential targets," police say.

So, what's the difference between seeing an "X" or a "box" in chalk outside of your home?

"An 'X' could mean the home is a good target for a burglary, and a box could indicate a home with a security system or a dog on the property," police said.

It's somewhat frightening to think about and will likely have many of us checking the areas around our driveways.

Here's The Silver Lining

While this is currently taking place in California, we have to remain vigilant and aware in the event this starts happening in the Treasure Valley. As of now, we haven't encountered any reports of this taking place in Idaho.

Hopefully, it stays that way.
