If there's one thing you need to do before we lose the summer temps, it's getting out of Boise and head to one of the most visually stunning natural springs in the U.S., according to Travel + Leisure. The best part is that it's under two hours from Boise, and it's an easy, inexpensive way to enjoy one of the most beautiful parts of Idaho.

My wife and I made the trip to Blue Heart Spring on Sunday (8/27) to get out of the heat and into the Snake River. Even though you can only get to Blue Heart Spring with a kayak, paddleboard, canoe, or boat and it's worth it. There are several different businesses in the area that you can rent from for a reasonable price. We used Blue Heart Kayaking, and they are less than a mile from Blue Heart Spring. They told us it would take about 20 minutes to paddle there and 40 minutes to paddle back. You can get a two-hour or four-hour rental. I wish we would have done the four hours instead of the two.

You should also know that once you get to Blue Heart Spring, the water is going to be cold. The water is a stunning shade of blue due to its purity and the minerals present in the area. The spring is fed by an underground aquifer and maintains a relatively constant temperature year-round.

Blue Heart Spring

Blue Heart Spring is in the Hagerman Valley. It's about an hour and a half drive from Boise. The best way to get there is to look up a rental business and go there.

Maybe you don't want to head to Blue Heart Springs because you don't want to kayak or paddle board, but if you want to do something before winter makes its way to the Treasure Valley, you should make sure to check out these wonderful scenic day trips that are less than three hours from Boise.
