Flu has Killed 20 Children this Season
I don't know that I've seen a worse flu season and now reports show it has taken the lives of 20 children.
We've felt the flu hard this year in Idaho. A school in Northern Idaho closed their doors for a few days this week because 140 of their students had called in sick in a single day.
We felt it around the office, in our neighborhoods, and there's the big debate of whether or not to get a flu shot, although doctors highly recommend it.
Dan Jernigan, is the director of the Influenza Division of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases and he says the flu has claimed the lives of 20 children across the United States in the past couple months.
In a KTVB article statistics show the flu kills between 12,000 and 56,000 each year.
Jernigan admits the flu shot is only about 30% effective but its better to protect yourself than to opt out and we have about 11 to 13 weeks left of flu season.
