A 59-year-old Idaho man is dead after attempting his first solo hang gliding flight in Utah.

The man's identity has not been released to the public yet, but we do know he is from Rupert and the accident happened Tuesday morning at the Point of the Mountain Flight Park in Lehi. I grew up in Utah and I remember seeing countless hang gliders at this spot. It's not that uncommon for accidents to happen and unfortunately, once in a while it turns deadly.

According to an article on idahonews.com, the man fell about 50 feet to his death. His injuries included significant head trauma.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and attempted CPR, but his injuries were too significant to save him.

The man was apparently visiting family in Utah and this was the first time he had ever flown without an instructor. Please keep all who knew and loved him in your thoughts and prayers.
