The Boise Airport is no doubt, one of the best in the country. It can get busy during holiday seasons but besides that, it's one of the more relaxed airports that we can say we've been to.

For many Boise travelers, it's a great starting destination for a trip because you don't encounter nearly as much stress as some other airports.

That being said, a major change is going to affect a lot of Boise airline passengers and how they travel.

For the first time in 50 years...

For the first time in half a decade, Southwest Airlines will be shifting to assigned seating and moving away from the "open seat" module. According to their statement:

The research is clear and indicates that 80% of Southwest Customers, and 86% of potential Customers, prefer an assigned seat. When a Customer elects to stop flying with Southwest and chooses a competitor, open seating is cited as the number one reason for the change. By moving to an assigned seating model, Southwest expects to broaden its appeal and attract more flying from its current and future Customers.

There seems to be a divided opinion on the move with some applauding the "organized" approach while others feel it takes away from the very reason they fly with Southwest.

There's also the question about flying with children.

According to Southwest Airlines, their current policy is: "Up to two adults traveling with a child six years old or younger may board during Family Boarding, which occurs after the 'A' group has boarded and before the “B” group begins boarding."

If you're in the 'A' group, you simply stay in your group with your family.

It'll be interesting to see how the assigned seating affects families with multiple children and how that will impact someone who "paid for their seat" if asked to accommodate families.
