Justin Moore released his new album Straight Outta The Country today, so he stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to talk about the new project, plus his thoughts on touring again this year, and perform his first number 1 hit.
Straight Outta The Country sounds oddly familiar to some fans of N.W.A who released a debut album called Straight Outta Compton. Moore added that there is no connection or relation between the two. He just came up with the album idea based on his songs. The album features 9 songs in total, including his single "We Didn't Have Much."
Looking back on his career, Moore remembers the first single he sent to country radio in 2008. It was called "Back That Thing Up," a song he wrote with fellow country artist Randy Houser. It was one of their only singles that didn't make it into the Top 30 on country radio. Despite not having success with the song, he admitted that he thought the song opened up fans to his personality and who he was. Though he also added that the song hasn't been on his set list for years. His first number 1 song was a bit different. "Small Town USA" went number 1 and became Moore's first number 1 hit, but it took almost a year for the song to top the charts.
Moore and his team are headed back out on the road this May for the first time since the pandemic hit last year. He added that he's so excited to get back, but also learned a big lesson during his time off. He learned not to take anything he gets to do as an artist for granted.
Before hopping off the virtual interview, Justin Moore performed his first number 1 hit "Small Town USA."
