If you felt like last month was an abnormally snowy month here in Boise, then you're intuition is correct. According to the National Weather Service, February 20221 was the 5th snowiest February on record in Boise.

Normally, we see about 3 inches of snow in the month of February. This past month, Boise was plummeted with just over 14 inches! That's a lot higher than average however it's not even close to the most snow ever recorded which was 25.2 inches set back in 1949.

Ski resorts benefited from this greatly! Basically every weekend in the month of February Idaho ski resorts were reporting prime skiing conditions. Bogus Basin had over a foot of fresh snow in just one weekend of snowfall. Brundage Mountain Resort experienced snow 21 out of 28 days in February bringing in a total of 88 inches of fresh

All of this snow brought on some dangers conditions too. Early February saw a record week of deadly avalanches across the country. Just recently, a snowmobiler was tragically killed in an avalanche on Tiger Peak in northern Idaho marking the 27th avalanche fatality in only 29 days in the USA. “We’re only halfway through the season and we’re 3/4 of the way to the number of fatalities we’d see in a typical year. The dangerous, record-breaking year keeps avalanche forecasters up at night,” one expert said.

While this week in Boise feels like spring may have actually arrived, don't get too comfortable yet because a cold front is pushing through. Could record snowfall by on the way for March too??
