There are some fishy things going on with locksmiths here in the Treasure Valley. Here's what you need to be leery of.

Many people say the locksmith they called was not upfront with how much their bill would cost and now the Better Business Bureau has gotten involved.

The Better Business Bureau encourages you to still have your guard up even if the companies website look legit.

According to KTVB, a common tactic is that website will say they can unlock a door for a small fee, but when the company arrives they say the job is "bigger than they initially thought."

Other issues people have experienced is getting someone who is not a real locksmith on the job and the person actually ends up causing damage to the door instead of fixing it.

Other Warning Signs

  • A "locksmith" with an unmarked vehicle and/ or no ID.
  • Open ended pricing
  • Not being able to tell you the location or potentially even the name of the locksmith company.

The Better Business Bureau also reminds people that you do not have to pay for a job that you are unsatisfied with.
