Popular Fast-Food Chain Has Major Food Allergy Breakout In Idaho
One of the most popular fast-food chains in America is in some serious trouble following news of a foodborne illness striking one of their signature items off the menu.
The Golden Arches Are In Trouble
For most of the population, McDonald's is about as American as baseball and apple pie. You have the famous "golden arches", the signature Happy Meal, and one of their most popular burgers: the quarter pounder.
Unfortunately for McManiacs, McDonald's is in the midst of a serious E. coli breakout that has McDonald's pulling the quarter pounder from the menu.
Even worse, neither McDonald's nor the CDC knows exactly what caused the outbreak.
"McDonald’s is collaborating with investigation partners to determine what food ingredient in Quarter Pounders is making people sick," a report from the CDC said.
"McDonald’s stopped using fresh slivered onions and quarter pound beef patties in several states while the investigation is ongoing to identify the ingredient causing illness."
Which States Have Been Affected By The McDonald's Outbreak?
According to the CDC, Idaho is among several states with McDonald's stores affected by the E. coli outbreak. Other states include "Colorado, Kansas, Utah, Wyoming, portions of Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oklahoma."
In most cases, E. coli isn't fatal to adults but it can cause some serious problems.
What Happens If You Get E. Coli From A Quarter Pounder?
The CDC says you should contact a health professional if you begin experiencing diarrhea for more than 3 days, a fever of 102 plus degrees, or symptoms of dehydration including dizziness.
