The holiday season is all but here and as much as we'd like to believe it's all jolly and joy this season, it's not.

This is the time of year when criminals get creative, sneaky, and even desperate. When you roll all three up into one, what you get is a dangerous criminal that can lure you down a dark path, robbing you of everything you own.

Are you expecting a package?

In this day and age, getting a package delivered to your door is more common than ever. Thanks to the ever-evolving sites like Amazon, Etsy, etc., we have the ability to have pretty much anything (and everything) sent to our homes via mail.

It's why scammers are weaponizing this technological norm and using it to steal data, money, and more.

In a post on the popular app NextDoor, user Mary S. shared the following:

USPS scam: ‘we tried to deliver a package. Follow the link to pay $3.30 for us to re-attempt delivery” I confirmed it at post office today. It’s a scam.

Now, we know what you might be thinking: "$3.30? That's nothing!"

While you might be right, it's what criminals are doing with your payment info that should have you being more careful. From your name, and billing address, to your actual payment info, we don't know what scammers can do with this information.

In the comment section that follows the original post, several other Boise residents shared similar experiences.

A user named Tracy, encountering the same message, shared that something didn’t feel right when she checked the link.

“I did get weird vibes so I didn’t put in my info,” she shared, “[I] went to our apartment mailbox to see if I had a missed delivery slip … nothing.”

Thankfully, a user by the name of Linda shared some useful tips for anyone getting this message. She says when she gets them, she reports the scams to 7726. According to AT&T, by forwarding the text to 7726 (SPAM), you’ll send the suspicious message to their defense team who then go about their process to determine if it is a scam or an illegal message.
