New details have emerged in the Boise Police officer involved shooting on Brynwood Drive this morning.

It started with a routine traffic stop around 2:14 a.m.  Police suspected the suspect was driving while intoxicated.  The driver became upset and assaulted an officer with a sharp tool before jumping back into his vehicle and speeding off.

At 2:40 a.m. police were able to find the suspect's vehicle stopped in the same location as the first traffic stop on the corner of Brynwood Drive and Parkwood Street.  Officers then approached the vehicle on foot and the suspect began to ram the officer's vehicles.  One of them had an officer in it.

The suspect was aggressive, refusing to listen to the officers, and using his vehicle in a dangerous manner in a residential neighborhood.  One officer was forced to use his gun, shooting the suspect.  Officers immediately gave the suspect medical attention until paramedics arrived, however the suspect died on the way to the hospital.

There is an officer body camera video of the incident which is currently under review.  The officer involved in the shooting was Rob Rainford, a five-year veteran of the Boise Police Department who has 16 years of law enforcement experience.

The investigation is ongoing and the Ada County Coroner will release the victim's name as soon as next of kin has been notified.
