Boise Cracks Down On People Sleeping Outside With New Fine
Life has its ups and downs, and unfortunately for many, the downsides of life have forced some into homelessness. Whether it's a result of losing a job at the wrong time or a string of financial misfortunes, anyone can wind up homeless.
Boise Cracks Down On Sleeping Outside
According to data from 2024, there were about 2,750 people statewide dealing with homelessness, with 789 of those people in Ada County. That's a lot of people without a place to prepare their own meals and without a bed of their own to lie down in after a long day.
It can be difficult for someone without the money or resources to find a place to sleep for the night, and for the homeless population who have been sleeping in different parts of Boise, it's about to get a little bit tougher.
According to the City of Boise, a new fine has been introduced for those caught "camping in public" within the city of Boise.

"On Tuesday, June 24, Boise City Council considered and approved changes to city code adopting the language from Senate Bill 1141 and making violating the law in the city an infraction with a $10 penalty," the city said on their official site.
"These changes to city code allow the city to comply with state law."
In case you're wondering, SB1141 "prohibits cities with populations of 100,000 or more from authorizing, permitting, or enabling public camping or sleeping on public property, public building grounds, or public roads or rights-of-way" and goes into effect July 1st.
