Do you remember the uncertainty of the pandemic back in 2020? There was so much information being tossed around about COVID-19, its origins, alternative cures, and so much more.

Is COVID-19 Even A Thing Anymore?

Some believe COVID-19 is a thing of the past, while some are still experiencing its effects or even dealing with an isolated case today. Thankfully, we've since overcome COVID-19 and have vaccines that are now optional.

Back then? We heard all kinds of theories for cures, ranging from drinking bleach in an attempt to kill the virus, people standing under the sun for an extended period of time, and several other theories we'd rather not even try to remember.

Recently, though, Idaho lawmakers presented a bill that reignited a COVID-19 debate that began back in 2020 when people began sharing their experiences with the prescription drug ivermectin.

What Is Ivermectin?

There is an ivermectin for animals and one for humans. According to the FDA, ivermectin is prescribed for humans to treat "parasitic worms, and there are topical (on the skin) formulations for head lice and skin conditions like rosacea."

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, claims were made that ivermectin cured COVID-19. This caused a lot of controversy due to the FDA's stance on ivermectin and COVID-19.

"The FDA has not authorized or approved ivermectin for use in preventing or treating COVID-19 in humans or animals," the FDA says on its site.

"The FDA has determined that currently available clinical trial data do not demonstrate that ivermectin is effective against COVID-19 in humans."

Now, Idaho lawmakers are making a push to make the drug available over the counter as opposed to its current status as a prescription drug.

Idaho's Bill For Ivermectin

Idaho lawmakers are pushing for a bill to pass that would make ivermectin available over the counter as opposed to prescription.

"As used in this section, 'over-the-counter medication' means medication that may be legally sold and purchased without a prescription," the bill reads.

"Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, ivermectin suitable for human use may be sold or purchased as an over-the-counter medication in this state without a prescription or consultation with a health care professional."

The bill will head to floor will lawmakers will debate if it should advance.
