FTC Issues Scam Warning For Idaho Travelers
Scams come in all different types of forms. Sometimes, it can come in the form of social media catfishing, email phishing, and of course, text messages.
The Federal Trade Commission recently announced a new scam that could have people who travel outside of Idaho scratching their heads... and costing them money.
Have You Traveled Outside Of Idaho Recently?
Recently, the FTC announced a scam that could cost some Idaho travelers money if they're not careful.
Scammers are texting people about unpaid tolls in an attempt to (obviously) make an illegal buck or two.
"The scammy text might show a dollar amount for how much you supposedly owe and include a link that takes you to a page to enter your bank or credit card info — but it’s a phishing scam," the FTC warns, "Not only is the scammer trying to steal your money, but if you click the link, they could get your personal info (like your driver’s license number) — and even steal your identity."
Now, it's no secret that there are no toll roads in Idaho BUT, if you live in Idaho and travel out of town often, you might have used one. Also, if you're not paying any close attention to the toll booths you've encountered while out of town, you might think you've forgotten to pay.
It can happen, right?
The FTC reminds us to not click on any links in unexpected texts, to do your research, and to report junk texts to 7726 (SPAM).
