Idaho ranks dead last in the nation for kids going to college, but there are so many great options to get into a career instead of just working a dead end job!

Did you know that in 2013 over half of Idaho's High School graduates had not enrolled in college a year after graduation? The problem isn't getting any better. In fact, Idaho ranks dead last in the nation for kids going to college and when we do bump up from that dead last ranking, we remain in the bottom 5. That's not good!

I remember when I was in High School I had big dreams of being an actress or a TV new reporter, but my parents moved away my senior year and I stayed behind and became lost. After High School I didn't know how to apply for college, enroll in college, or navigate my way around the system, so I mustered my way into one semester at a junior college and then flunked out. This type of scenario happens all the time. Kids don't have support at home, or they don't know what they want to do, so they don't further their education. I ended up being lucky. I eventually moved back in with my parents, and long story short I graduated from the University of Utah in 2004. It's a path I am so glad I took!

Recently I sat down with the great people over at Stevens-Henager College and I was so impressed with how they will literally walk kids through the admissions process, the financial aid process, and when they graduate they help their students find jobs! They have on-line options for busy adults, face-to-face class time for those who need it, and they are getting kids out of minimum wage jobs and into real long lasting careers. Stevens-Henager College offers degrees in

  • business
  • technology
  • health care
  • graphic arts

They also help those who didn't graduate High School get their GED and they have awesome Military benefits. I would highly recommend checking them out if you are interested in any of those fields. They make the process so easy you don't have an excuse not to go to college!
