The Fourth of July is this Friday, and this year, America gets a birthday weekend! It's the perfect time for families and friends to gather for one of the biggest celebrations of the year.

Fireworks Safety in Idaho

To some, the idea of talking about fireworks safety might seem like something that could be figured out with common sense. Unfortunately, the stats tell us that common sense might not be so common.

Now, can accidents happen even if you practice good safety habits? Sure! But, according to Middleton Star Fire Districts, there were over 10,400 people treated in U.S. emergency rooms in 2024 due to firework-related injuries. Kids and teens were also at risk, with nearly 50% of those injuries consisting of people under the age of 20.

Even worse, Middleton Star Fire Districts says that eleven firework-related deaths were reported in 2024.

Most of us are familiar with Idaho's ban on using aerial fireworks. Because of that, many families and kids resort to using fireworks on the ground. Many of the fireworks intended to be used on the ground require us to hold them, or they can pop/shoot off right in front of us.

Throw some small children into the mix and you potentially have a dangerous situation... if you're not prepared.
