Free Fishing Day is a great day to teach someone how to fish or to learn how to fish. Idaho Fish and Game personnel and volunteers set up multiple free events at local fishing waters across the state to teach interested newbies how to find the joys of fishing.

Fishing can be a fun hobby for the entire family. Today is a great day to take the kids out to the lake and show them how to properly and safely enjoy fishing. Our state has some great spots for fishing and it can be a great way to make memories together. As a reminder, kids 13 years and younger do not need a fishing license here in Idaho. That means it's an affordable activity for the family in the summer. A great way to relax, bond, and enjoy each other's company.

There will be several Free Fishing Day events happening in the Treasure Valley today to learn how to fish that would be great to do as a family. Free events can be found this year at Fischer Pond in Cascade, Kleiner Pond in Meridian, Legacy Park Pond in Mountain Home, McDevitt Pond in Boise, Dick Knox Park in Emmett, Caldwell Rotary Pond, Rowland Pond in McCall, Wilson Springs Ponds in Nampa, and Lowman (Ten Mile) Ponds in Boise County. A map of the events is provided below.

While no license is required on Free Fishing Day, all other fishing regulations and rules do remain in effect. That includes opening dates, creel limits, and tackle restrictions.
