Aside from the Trump's victory, it seems that legal marijuana was a major issue this election season.  And the result is that Idaho is now seemingly standing alone in abstaining from legalizing the substance among it's bordering neighbors.  Nearly all took steps towards legalization this election and now 80 percent of Idaho borders legal marijuana.

Of course recreational marijuana has already been legal in Washington and Oregon for some time now. However, as Nevada has just approved recreational sales and Montana has loosened limits on the state's medical usage laws, Idaho appears to be the last in the region in making any major efforts towards legalization.  There is also of course British Columbia to the north where medical pot is legal.

There have been ballot initiatives to legalize medical marijuana this and two years ago, both of which failed.
