Kind Idaho has been working on this for several months. They first introduced a draft of their proposal in September. Since then, they have been on a mission to refine its language, taking into account the feedback from both the state attorney general's office and the secretary of state. The effort is to make sure that the proposal meets the necessary legal standards to help make way for a smoother approval process.
The next hurdle for Kind Idaho is going to be gathering the required signatures. The group would like to start this phase by the end of the month, contingent on completing the measure's review. They will then need to collect approximately 70,000 valid signatures. Idaho's regulations stipulate that these signatures must represent at least 6 percent of the registered voters in 18 of the 35 legislative districts. The deadline for this task is set for April 2026.

The proposal itself is centered around exempting individuals aged 21 and older from specific state laws concerning cannabis. This exemption applies only under particular conditions where the cannabis is for personal use, not for sale or public consumption. This approach aims to strike a balance between personal freedom and public safety.
