Every year, when McDonald's brings back it's McRib sandwich, the world goes into a frenzy. No one needs to have a calendar to know when it's March because that's when the Shamrock Shake magically appears like a pot of gold under a rainbow, but the item that I'm most excited about returning, you didn't even know was gone.

At the height of the Coronavirus lockdowns, McDonald's quietly pulled any item made with soft-serve ice cream from their menu. I know because I tried to order a McFlurry from the McDonald's on Fairview a while back and had to settle for a Big Mac with a large fry and Diet Coke. When I asked why the ice cream products had been removed, I was told that it was because of the traffic that the drive-thru was seeing and how long the process took. To keep the lines moving, they took menu items that took longer to prepare off the menu. Yesterday, on my way home from work, I decided that I needed a little snack. Knowing that I couldn't get a small cone, I went for the Double Quarter Pounder with a large fry and Diet Coke. As I pulled up to the window, I saw the person in front of me being handed a sundae! When I asked about it, I was told that they had been back on the menu for about a week. To ensure that this wasn't a single location breaking the rules, I called several Treasure Valley McDonald's locations. I was told each time that ice cream is back and has been since last week.

Having ice cream back on the menu at McDonald's is good news for me and my waistline because the Vanilla Cone is only 200 calories. The snacks that I have been ordering in its place are over 1,000 calories!
