Nampa Suspect’s Sneaky Crime Is A Valuable Lesson For Us All
They say you learn something new every day and in most cases that's true. Many of us don't realize these lessons come in all shapes and sizes... even in the form of crime.
Nampa Man's Sneaky Crime Is A Teaching Moment
Yesterday, Nampa police shared news about an arrest involving a Nampa man who is accused of messing with car odometers.
"The Nampa Police Property Crimes Unit had been alerted to an individual suspected of rolling back a used car’s odometer by more than 65,000 miles," Nampa police shared in a post.
They said the suspect then began "posting it on Facebook Marketplace at an increased price because of the lower mileage."
Talk about unlocking a new fear! Sure, most of us are familiar with "buy beware" but many of us don't walk into a deal on Facebook Marketplace expecting this kind of shady behavior.
It's a good reminder to always look up vehicles you're buying privately and put the work in to avoid falling for something like this suspect is accused of doing. As it turns out, officials secured a search warrant to inspect the suspect's property and they didn't just find one odometer messed with... but two.
"During the execution of the search warrant, another vehicle with an altered odometer was located on the property," Nampa police said in their social media post.
"As a result of the investigation, Hamit Kaan Tekel, 20 years old, of Nampa, was arrested without incident and charged with two counts of Computer Crime, I18-2202(1) (felony)."
Yikes! Twenty years old and already facing a felony charge. It's sad because the man has so much life ahead of him but we can't defend the sneaky behavior he's accused of doing.
Hopefully, he learned his lesson too.
