One of the first things I noticed and admired about the city of Boise was how many small and locally-owned business there were and who doesn't love supporting small business?! According to some numbers, Idahoans are all about it.

There are approximately 30.7 million small businesses in the United States according to the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, and 59.9 million Americans are employed by small businesses, which is an impressive 47.3% of all United States employees

While starting up and then running a small business takes countless hours of hard work and determination, location may or may not be an advantage. It's true that a small business that starts up in Kansas City may succeed there but that same business might absolutely fail somewhere else like Miami, Florida. Location has a huge impact on a small business's success!

There must be something in the air here in Boise because according to data gathered by the research team at WizardPins from  the U.S. Small Business Administration, small business is booming!

This data was put together back in 2018, but surely still rings true even despite the pandemic. Overall Boise, Idaho had the most new small businesses based on percentages opening in the entire nation with 724 business opening in 2018. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho also made the top 10 list with 154 new small businesses in 2018.

A more recent list from Fox Business in 2021 also ranks Boise among big cities like Denver, San Francisco, and Austin as as the 5th best place to start a small business considering factors like population growth, job creation and net business creation, as well as funding.
