95-year-old Bob Mettauer is no stranger to riding a bike around. In the 1930s, he ran deliveries for a local butcher in New York, totaling 50 miles on his bike on Saturdays. But it wasn't until after he retired from his job at a telephone company in California in 1991 that he decided to set a goal with his bike.

The World War II Navy veteran, now known as "Bicycle Bob" to his community, decided to set a goal of reaching 100,000 miles on his bike back in 1991. This week, after 28 years of riding his bike, Bicycle Bob crossed his 100,000-mile finish line as his neighbors lined the streets to cheer him on. He accomplished the goal with the help of 3 bikes over the course of those 28 years.

As for what Mettauer is planning to do next, he shared with Insider"I'm going to be 96 in the next month. My goal now is to stay alive for a while."
