Emily Bugg and Billy Lewis were hoping to have a big wedding ceremony this year, but due to the pandemic things changed.
Despite their unfortunate luck, they decided to donate their catering deposit to help provide meals for people in need during the Thanksgiving holiday. The pair used their $5,000 nonrefundable deposit to purchase 200 Thanksgiving dinners for those who needed a good meal. Bugg works as an outreach worker at Threshold so the meals went to the clients there. Threshold is a nonprofit mental health provider who help those struggling with serious mental illnesses and substance abuse conditions.
Bugg and Lewis were still able to get married this year. They got married at City Hall in Chicago, foregoing a large wedding event. Bugg told Good Morning America, “We’re happy to be married, and we’re so happy that we could help Thresholds’ clients feel the connection of a Thanksgiving meal as a result of the wedding cancellation."
