TMSG: Volunteers Remove More Than 9K Pounds Of Trash From Tennessee River

A group of volunteers in Tennessee accomplished a big feat in an epic cleanup effort.

The volunteers removed more than 9,000 pounds of trash from the Tennessee River. The river is noted as one of the dirtiest rivers in the country. The cleanup effort happened over the course of three days earlier this month. The volunteers came from groups Keep The Tennessee River Beautiful and Johnsonville State Historic Park. They used a 25-foot aluminum work boat to travel through the river and clean shorelines.

The same team led another cleanup in October, when they collected 4,811 pounds of trash. Despite both of the two cleanup event efforts, there is still more to be cleaned. They are planning another event in April. The team hopes to collect 100,000 pounds of trash from the river by the end of the year
