Kaytea Moreno-Elst had the idea of turning an abandoned lot in Detroit into something for her community. She was inspired by the freezing cold temperatures to build an ice skating rink that the community kids could use for recess, as an after school program, or just for some fun.
Though Kaytea didn't do things all by herself. She had the help of her community who also wanted to help build something for the kids. Every piece of gear they have was donated by the community. The local ice skating community donated every size of ice skates so all the children would have a pair to use, plus their parents who also had the option to join in. The local fire department stopped by and got out their hose and unloaded their entire tank to create the rink.
