It might not be Thanksgiving just yet but that isn't stopping Idaho Fish & Game from focusing their attention on the turkey population.

They've put a "bounty" of sorts out on the turkeys but not in the way you think.

Wild turkeys

Idaho Fish & Game isn't putting out a hit on the turkey population, but they are calling on the public for some help: if you see a turkey, report a turkey!

"Idaho Fish and Game is launching a new project, the Turkey Tracker, to learn more about the state’s turkey population," Idaho Fish & Game said in a press release.

"The agency is asking people to spot and record wild turkeys on Fish and Game’s website, especially during July and August when hens are with young ones."

This could be a cool summer activity for you and the kids and it's as simple as snapping a photo! Plus, you're helping out Idaho Fish & Game who hopes to learn more about broods - "one adult hen with young (poult)."

They're looking to understand how these broods survive, "percentage of hens with poults, and a ratio of the total number of offspring to the total number of hens."

Idaho Fish & Game says that they also hope to better understand where the wild turkeys are located and if the turkey range is "expanding or contracting."
