According to a press release from Idaho State Police, a trailer disconnected from a semi on US Highway 30, leading to a fatal crash that claimed one life.
Detached Semi Trailer Ended Up Stationary In The Westbound Lane On US-30
A 20-year-old from Pocatello and a 24-year-old from Idaho Falls were in a white 2024 Freightliner semi-truck, traveling eastbound on US-30. ISP reports the semi was hauling a single trailer. The trailer became disconnected from the truck and came to rest in the westbound lane of US-30.
Mercury Grand Marquis Driver Struck The Stationary Trailer And Died At The Scene
A 52-year-old man driving a silver Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling westbound when he struck the trailer. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene due to his injuries.
US-30 Blocked For About Six Hours During Emergency Response And Investigation
ISP reports lanes were blocked for about six hours while crews responded and worked the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police. We'll update this story as more information is made available.
Other Recent Accidents Reported by Idaho State Police
Idaho State Police says two serious crashes over the weekend were both caused by rear-end collisions tied to inattentive driving. One happened in Southern Idaho on I-15 and the other was a multi-vehicle wreck on US-95 near Riggins in West Central Idaho, roughly 15 miles from the Washington border.
No one was killed, but several people were taken to local hospitals for medical care. Both crashes remain under investigation by Idaho State Police.
