Will Idaho Schools Adopt Gun Safety Classes?

Social studies. Math. History. Gun safety?

It's not out of the question for Idaho schools.

A bill was proposed Monday (1/29) to the House Education Committee that would allow Idaho schools to teach elective firearm safety courses. Representative Ron Nate says that firearm safety courses taught in other states have saved lives:

Eleven other states have passed gun safety bills in schools. I think in Idaho, which is a state [that] probably has a higher proportion of homeowners with guns, it's perfectly appropriate for our state.

If the bill does pass, it will not provide funding for the courses, nor will it require districts to adopt them. It's simply giving schools the option to elect in to teaching gun safety. Being that Idaho has a large population of gun owners and gun enthusiasts, the bill is expected to pass without issue.

Currently, 11 other states teach some type of gun safety course.
