One of the best parts about winter is how few bugs, especially spiders we see. However, there is also something extremely unsettling about that.

For example, where do they go?

Winter: The Season Of Spiders Watching You Sleep

We don't necessarily mean to induce nightmare fuel but it's true - spiders don't just disappear during the cold winter months, they have to be somewhere, right? As it turns out, spiders look for "cozy" spots during the cold months including under rocks, piles of leaves... or even cracks in your house to survive.

According to one pest control company, spiders "are cold-blooded creatures who enter a diapause phase during the winter. It’s a bit like hibernation."

Luckily, we still have some time before temperatures rise allowing the spiders to come out and live their best lives. Until then, there are a few things you can do to protect your home from a full-on eight-legged invasion.

Experts say you should:

  • Eliminate all possible entry points of your home by sealing cracks and gaps in your home's foundation, fixing broken screens, etc.
  • Use natural spider deterrents including eucalyptus, peppermint, and tea tree.
  • Eliminate the other pests that attract them - like their food.
