Starting A Homestead In Idaho? NEVER Milk These Animals
The trend of homesteading is becoming more and more popular these days, with more people looking to live a life in the country, enjoy fresh farm-to-table food, and reduce their impact on the environment.
Fresh Air, Fresh Food... Fresh Milk?
The idea of starting a homestead is certainly a nice one, but there is a lot of work that has to be put into it. Shoot, my wife loves watching the show "Homestead Rescue" on Max, and while I find it entertaining, I also think about how much must go into completing what ends up becoming the final product.
Idaho is no doubt one of the top places potential homesteaders have on their list of places to settle, and why shouldn't they? The state is full of natural resources, great soil for gardening, beautiful scenery, and in some cases, even homestead exceptions.

But one of the main reasons people want to homestead is for the ability to enjoy fresh food. We've all seen how the government is working toward removing dyes and other ingredients that serve no health benefit to us. It seems the trend of going organic and away from artificial ingredients has trickled into the minds of people looking for viable living solutions, AKA homesteading.
You Gotta Do What You Gotta Do For Some Milk
For those wanting fresh food, this means growing and maintaining a garden, constructing the proper structures to protect livestock, and, for some people, working for their milk.
Like, sure... You could go with the milk from the store, but don't you want the real deal? Fresh from the teet?
Just make sure you don't wind up milking the wrong animal.
