Idaho Scammers Continue To Reach New Lows

It wasn't that long ago when we shared a story with you about scammers posing as police charities in attempt to scam people out of their hard-earned money.

Crime and scams are bad enough, but it's a whole other level of disrespect to pose as a nonprofit that's intended to help these brave heroes. Now, scammers are shifting from posing as police charities to posing as charities intended to help those affected by serious fires.

Boise Fire Department shared a warning for supporters of first responders scammers are targeting their generosity.

"We’ve received reports of scammers calling people and asking for donations to the Local 149 Boise Firefighters Burnout Fund," Boise Fire shared. "Please be aware that Boise Fire or Local 149 will never request donations over the phone."

What's The Motive Behind A Scam Like This?

It's obviously money, but the question should be: How can someone even conceive this idea and go after money that helps those in need?

Our Boise firefighters already have enough to worry about, they shouldn't have to worry about people exploiting charities designed to help people who lost everything in a fire.
