FDA Warning to Idaho: This Cough Syrup Can Kill You
We're not too far into 2024 yet but there have already been quite a few recalls and warnings from the government about contaminated products.
The latest recall from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, however, is arguably one of the most important as the contaminated product can actually kill you.
Nationwide Recall of Robitussin
The FDA recently announced a recall of Robitussin but don't worry - it's not every type of Robitussin. According to the press release:
Haleon is voluntarily recalling eight lots of Robitussin Honey CF Max Day Adult and Robitussin Honey CF Max Nighttime Adult to the consumer level. The product is being recalled due to microbial contamination.
Before we get to what this can do to you outside of ending your life, here are some photos that you'll likely want to save or screenshot so you can triple-check your pantries and medicine cabinets.
Because of the microbial contamination, Haleon and the FDA say that the adverse effects can be life-threatening:
In immunocompromised individuals, the use of the affected product could potentially result in severe or life-threatening adverse events such as fungemia or disseminated fungal infection.
And what happens if you consume it and you're not immunocompromised? According to the FDA:
In non-immunocompromised consumers, the population most likely to use the product, life-threatening infections are not likely to occur. However, the occurrence of an infection that may necessitate medical intervention cannot be completely ruled out.
Thankfully, Haleon says that they haven't had any reports of anyone experiencing any of the aforementioned effects. Still, you may want to act now and toss it out before you forget to.
It could end up saving your or someone else's life.
