Idaho Man Found Guilty Is Now Facing Life In Prison
Canyon County, Idaho - Just after four hours Freddy Salinas Martinez was found guilty on Jan. 5 of of lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor under 16. According to the Caldwell Police Department Press Release the incident occurred on August 23, 2021, when Martinez who was 39 years old at the time of the incident had sexual contact with the minor who was able to lock herself in the bathroom of the apartment and called authorities.
The Caldwell Police were able to direct the girl to safety after responding to the call and detained and questioned Martinez. The press release mentions "we want to commend the minor in this case, she is a survivor, and we are proud of her actions in this case"
Rex Ingram, the Caldwell Chief of Police said "Today, Justice was served in Canyon County. A jury of Martinez’s peers found him guilty of this atrocious crime against a child. Hopefully, he will feel the same pain and suffering that his victim felt when he spends the rest of his life in an Idaho prison. This should stand as an example for all, that our community is stronger than ever and gives us confidence that if you decide to prey on people in our city, county, or state, you will face your destiny".
The Caldwell Police Department wants to make that parents/guardians are reminded to review some simple steps to help protect the wellbeing of children in the community.
- Take time to talk to your children about what a stranger is, and how to handle themselves if approached by a stranger.
- What to do if there is unsolicited contact, even if someone is known to your child, remind them to say "NO, GET AWAY" and find a trusted adult to tell.
Freddy Salinas Martinez will be sentenced on March 28, at 10 am in Canyon County and is facing up to a life sentence.
