The holidays are here and people all across the country will be exchanging gifts this weekend. Whether it's a simple gift exchange or a white elephant event with a group, there is one gift you might want to reconsider buying for someone.

Federal Recall On A Major Appliance

This year has been one for the books when it comes to recalls and bans; we've seen things like gas grills get the boot and even ingredients in our favorite drinks have been outlawed.

Now, just in time for the holiday weekend, a federal recall has been announced for a popular gifting item: the air fryer.

Don't worry, it's not every single air fryer, but there is a specific brand the government is warning us about. According to the announcement, Empower Brands is recalling the "PowerXL™ DUAF-10 and DUAF-005 Vortex Dual-Basket Air Fryers."

What's the reason for the recall?

In the announcement, the manufacturer says a flaw in the mechanism that connects two baskets is the reason for the recall:

The plastic U-Channel connector used to optionally combine the two food baskets inside of the air fryers can break during use, posing a burn hazard.

What a bummer! Air fryers have to be one of the premier go-to gift items every year and while most are safe, you don't want to risk hanging onto one of these air fryers listed.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are about 319,000 units that are affected and Empower Brands is offering a refund for those who return them. The models that are being recalled "were sold in black or cinnamon colors" according to the announcement.

There have been around 41 reports of the air fryer breaking during use which has resulted in three burns.
