People Are LOVING Idaho’s Ban On Candy & Soda For SNAP Users
At the beginning of the month, we shared the news with you that a law could potentially pass that wouldn't allow candy and soda to be purchased with SNAP benefits.
As of today, that law has become official. It goes into effect July 1, 2025.
"Make America Healthy Again"
Governor Brad Little officially signed House Bill 109 into law today, which bans candy and soda from being purchased with SNAP benefits. According to the Office of the Governor, the bill is part of the "MAHA movement" or the "Make America Healthy Again movement."

"Idaho welcomes the MAHA movement," Governor Little said in a statement. "Secretary Kennedy said it so well: we need to take better care of ourselves and each other."
"He said it is an act of patriotism, and the future of our nation depends on it. Idaho couldn’t agree more."

On the other hand, we received an overwhelming amount of comments arguing that items such as candy and soda should be purchased with someone's own personal money, not money from a government-assisted program.
