While the story starts out pretty horridly, this is the kind of feel-good comeback story we need more of in 2018.

Merida, a rottweiler-chow mix, was discovered near Spalding with two gunshot wounds to her abdomen. Thing is, by the time she was found, she had already given birth to a litter of puppies. Sadly, two of the pups didn't make it, but the rest of the litter is doing well after being treated for a nasty virus they were born with.

Since Merida is being regarded as a hero, there's been a lot of interest in adopting her to give her a comfy forever home. Her current caretaker, Rita Leslie, explains:

Everyone wants her since she's such a hero. We still want to find the right home for her where she will be spoiled forever, because she deserves it.

It sounds like Merida will be ready for adoption in a month or two, while her babies will be looking for their new families in just a couple of weeks.
