LDS Church Makes a Major Change for Sister Missionaries

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which is followed by about 20% of the Treasure Valley population has made some major changes lately and this one is a doozy!

First, there was the controversial stance of gay marriage and children who are being raised by gay parents. The church took a stand back in 2015 saying children in these households couldn't be given a name and a blessing or possibly baptized. (I'm not positive if this one has really stuck or not. I know a family out here and even though the father is in a homosexual relationship, their kids have been able to be baptized, but I'm not certain how it stands in all cases.)

Then this past October the church tried to get rid of being referred to as "Mormon's" and took their traditional three-hour block of church on Sunday down to two hours.

In 2012 we saw the age young people were allowed to go on missions drop from 19 to 18 to boys and from 21 to 19 for women.

Now female missionaries are doing away with the dress and allowing women serving missions to wear pants! I never thought I'd see the day and it makes me wonder if allowing women to wear pants to church is just around the corner?

According to idahonews.com, women serving missions for the church were required to wear skirts, though women in some missions had been wearing slacks during wet seasons to protect them from mosquitos.

The LDS church says sister missionaries will still be required to wear dresses or skirts to church services and to the temple.

They say the reason behind the change is to benefit women serving in colder climates and it will allow sister missionaries to ride bicycles as well.
