No New WinCo at Chinden and Linder
Meridian city first loses out on a brand new Costco and now WinCo. What is going on?
It's not completely dead in the water but Planning and Zoning just turned down the proposal of a brand new WinCo on the corner of Chinden and Linder. Why? Maybe the question should be why not? Planning and Zoning voted unanimously to turn down the proposal and they say there's a lot of reasons from traffic and connectivity, to the strip mall style design, to how close it is to homes.
We all just see a beautiful grocery store pop up with great prices and a huge variety but the truth is, there's a whole lot of issues that need to be addressed to make it all work.
According to KTVB, the hearing took over 3 hours and most public testimony was very negative to the possibility of a new WinCo. Some of what was said that seems to be resonating was...
"If the development is too far ahead of the roads and other infrastructure development then it lessens quality of life here rather than making it better."
"We are all for growth, but if it's allowed to go unchecked and unfettered then it turns the city into something that the people won't necessarily like."
WinCo's proposal will now go to the Meridian City Council who has the option of overturning or upholding Planning and Zoning's denial.
