Planned Power Outages Are Coming To Idaho This Summer
As we enter the summer months, many of us will be putting our A/C units to work, and rightfully so. Shoot, this weekend alone, we're expecting temperatures to get near triple digits.
And it's because of that heat some Idaho residents might be frustrated to hear they could lose power this summer.
Get ready for a PSPS
Many Idaho Power residents might have received a notice from Idaho Power notifying them of a PSPS or a Public Safety Power Shutoff. We were able to get our hands on one and it reads:
"Our records show your property in the Kuna area is in or near a wildfire risk zone and could be impacted in the event of a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). All customers should be prepared for a PSPS or other wildfire-related outage. However, customers living in or near higher wildfire risk areas are more likely to experience a PSPS."
We've been fortunate to get some rain recently but it might not be consistent enough to prevent vegetation from drying out. We also have low humidity in Idaho with high temperatures and windy conditions.
While this might sound like a headache, it's for safety reasons and we can't really be mad at that, right?
The good news is that Idaho Power says a PSPS is a last resort and is done to protect the grid. Also, you have to give Idaho Power some credit, they're having a "townhall" of sorts at the Kuna Library on June 13th from 6 to 7 PM. They're giving those affected an opportunity to ask questions and even update their contact information so they don't miss any other announcements.
Stay safe out there, y'all! And if you live in that area, it might be a good idea to invest in a generator if you don't have one.
