Should wild horses be surgically sterilized? Researchers say yes, but a rescue group says no and plans to sue!

According to KTVB, researchers want to sterilize 200 wild mares at a facility in Hines, Oregon, but the group Front Range Equine Rescue is calling the experiments barbaric and unnecessary because there is already an existing vaccine that works effectively as birth control.

On the flip side, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management says the research will show whether the three methods are safe to control the wild horse population.

Front Range Equine Rescue is seeking an injunction that was filed Monday in Washington D.C.

What do you think? Is sterilizing the horses barbaric or necessary?
