From a very young age I've believed that we're all put on earth to make a positive difference. A positive difference is can be as simple as sharing a smile or as complex as inventing something that makes the world a better place. Can you Imagine being the guy who invented straws? Straws are so convenient and kinda of fun. They're so convenient that every fast food place in America uses them... until now. It seems as thought more and more businesses are become eco friendly and removing straws from their establishments.

Starbucks is latest to join the movement by getting rid of their iconic green straws. the good news is that they claim to have designed new recyclable strawless lids with a drinking spout that are eco friendly because they contain about 9% "less plastic than the flat lid and straw historically used for iced beverages." according the press release.

“We developed and trialed several prototypes to arrive at this milestone,” said Andy Corlett, director of global packaging solutions and innovations, in a press release. “A recyclable, strawless lid becoming the standard for iced drinks is one small way we can give more than we take from the planet. This is a significant moment for Starbucks as we work to reduce waste and safeguard the environment.”

Not all straws will be gone as drinks with whipped cream and blended drinks will continue to have straws included.

I did find it interesting that our local Black Rock on Broadway already has those so called "new lids". Should I be giving props to Black Rock or shaming Starbucks for claiming to develop something that already exist? Maybe I should just be happy that they're doing their part... yeah that's the move.
