People are moving to Idaho in groves, According to the 2020 census the Gem state was the second most moved into state in the US, next to Utah. Utah happens to be the second most common state that Idahoans move to when they move out of the Gem state. Check out the list of top ten below, number 1 surprised me and it won by a lot.

Stacker compiled a list of where people in Idaho are moving to most using data from the U.S. Census Bureau. States are ranked by the number of people that have moved from Idaho in 2019.

#10. Alaska In 2019, 1,644 Idahoans became Alaskans. On the other side of the coin, in 2019, 674 people moved from Alaska to Idaho. *I lived in Anchorage Alaska for 4.5 years. Amazing, private, gorgeous, and even magical at times (seeing the beluga whales swim up the Turn Again water channel with mountainous glaciers on the other side, yes, magical) but also excessively cold and dark in winter. I get why people move there but winters are harder than they seem.

#9. Nevada In 2019, 1660 Idahoans moved to Nevada. Way more came from Nevada to Idaho, in 2019, 2,093 moved into Idaho from Nevada.

#8. Wyoming In 2019, 1,792 Idahoans moved to Wyoming. Not nearly as many the other way around. Only 662 people moved from Wyoming to Idaho in 2019 according to the census data and stacker.com

#7. Montana Oh yes beautiful Montana, I am also a fan of the show Yellowstone which captures the beauty of Montana well. In 2019, 2,197 people moved from Idaho to Montana. More came here though. For Montana, Idaho is the second most moved to state. in 2019, 3,026 residents came to Idaho from Montana.

#6. Texas When I asked people to guess where Idahoans are most likely to move to the number one guess was Texas while 2,836 Idahoans moved there in 2019, it only got 6th rank on the list. More Texans moved to Idaho in 2019 with 3,198.

#5. Arizona *My home state, I grew up in Tucson and visit often since most of my family is there. In 2019, 2,961 Idaho residents moved to Arizona. For Arizona, Idaho was a very popular place to move with 5,018 coming from the southern state to us.

#4. California I was a little surprised by how many Idahoans moved to California in 2019, 4,372 making it number four on the ranking. Are you ready for how many California residents came to Idaho that year? 17,722! Making it the 11th most common destination from California.

#3. Oregon - This makes sense with it bordering the state. I lived in Oregon just over a decade, from Klamath Falls to Portland before crossing over the gem state. in 2019, 5,623 other people also made the move from Oregon to Idaho. As far as the other way around? 7,570 Oregonians became Idahoans.

#2. Utah The number one most moved to state in the US so its no wonder that it is high on the list of where Idahoans are moving to. 6,752 Idahoans went south of the boarder to find new homes. We had a higher income rate though, with 7,371 people moving into Idaho from Utah.

#1. Washington Surprised me as the number one state that Idahoans moved to and by nearly twice as much as second place. In 2019, 12,599 people moved out of Idaho and into Washington. Still though we had more people from Washington come and move to Idaho with 13,505.
