Woman Paralyzed in Meridian Shooting Dies
There have been so many victims in this horrible act of violence and now it's claimed another life.
We all remember the shooting that took the life of the beloved K9 Jardo and that paralyzed Officer Kevin Holtry. I'll never forget hiking with Officer Holtry during the Limbitless Climb in June. I remember being amazed at his positive attitude and also thinking about how his entire life change in an instant.
Another victim of that shooting was Melinda Marie Salas. Sadly, at just 29 years old, she passed away yesterday. According to KTVB it's unclear if she died from her injuries or something else. We'll know more once the toxicology report is released.
Last November Melinda was at a party with 33 year old Marco Romero of Nampa when all of a sudden he pulled out a gun and shot her and another man at the party.
Melinda suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of the shooting that left her paralyzed. The other man was shot twice in the legs.
After the shooting, Romero took off and carjacked an elderly woman. He was on the run for three days before officers found him in the Central Rim neighborhood on the Boise Bench.
That's when Romero shot Officer Kevin Holtry, Cpl. Chris Davis, and K9 Officer Jardo before he himself was killed by gunfire.
Other thoughts and prayers will are with Melinda's friends and family during yet another very difficult time and may sweet Melinda rest in peace.
